# Craps — Quick Reference

## How it works

Pass wins on a come-out 7/11 and loses on 2/3/12. A 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 sets its point; then point before 7 wins and 7 before point loses. Don't Pass reverses wins/losses except that an opening 12 pushes in this example. Other wagers can follow different settlement rules.

## The key numbers

- **Pass:** 1.41% house edge per initial line wager.
- **Don't Pass:** 1.36%, with opening 12 pushing and those wagers included in the denominator.
- **True-odds portion:** 0.00%, paid exactly behind an eligible base wager.
- **Place 6/8:** 1.52% at 7:6 net, kept working until the selected number or 7.
- **Field, 2:1 on both 2 and 12:** 5.56%.
- **Field, 2:1 on 2 and 3:1 on 12:** 2.78%.

Both field examples win on 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 and 12; ordinary wins pay 1:1 net. The special payouts are necessary to interpret the percentages.

## One thing to know

A zero-edge odds portion can lose its full stake. Adding it behind the same base bet does not remove that base's expected dollar loss. A smaller combined percentage can reflect a larger total amount staked.

## The math in plain English

An unchanged one-unit Pass wager has 7/495 units of expected net loss. If exactly five units of true odds are added after every point, average new stakes per line cycle are `1 + (2/3 × 5) = 13/3` units. Dividing that same expected loss by this larger denominator gives 0.33%. It assumes uniform five-times odds on all points, exact payouts and no fees; it is not a 3–4–5 schedule.

For a fixed $100 of initial Pass wagers alone, expected loss is about $1.41. Actual results vary. Count all new bets in total action, and do not count an unchanged held line wager again on every neutral roll.

Seven has 6/36, or 16.67%, probability in the stated fair independent-roll model. It wins Pass on the come-out and loses Pass in the point phase.
